IR CONFERENCE WELCOMED GRADUATES FROM TURKEY AS WELL AS ABROAD

Believing in the importance of intellectual exchange among graduate students, Department of International Relations organized Graduate Conference 2014 under the general theme of ‘International Relations in the Age of Uncertainty: Theory and Practice’ on 30 May 2014. On this day-long event, panelists reflecting diverse sub-fields of the discipline presented their projects and welcomed feedback.
The program was divided into five panels: ‘Rethinking Security’, ‘Rethinking International Relations’, ‘The Arab Uprisings and Its Aftermath’, ‘Leadership and Foreign Policy Analysis’ and ‘International Political Economy of Regions and Regionalism’. 21 participants from Ankara University (Ankara), Dokuz Eylül University (İzmir), European University Institute, Florence (Italy), Gazi University (Ankara), Hacettepe University (Ankara), Middle East Technical University (Ankara), Yalova University (Yalova), Yeditepe University (İstanbul), University of Sussex (UK) and Zirve University (Gaziantep) as well as Bilkent IR’s graduate students received feedback from IR faculty acting as discussants.
The conference concluded with Dr. Faruk Yalvaç’s (Middle-East Technical University) keynote speech on ‘Ibn Khaldun's (1332-1406) Thought and Historical Sociology of IR’.
The graduate conference underscores the significance of graduate studies and of initiatives jointly taken by the graduate students and faculty members in Department of International Relations.
