Summer Training & Voluntary Internship

Definition of Summer Training

  • Minimum 20 consecutive working days (for all departments of FEASS) at the same institution

*The requirement for mandatory internship;

– Online / Hybrid Internships are accepted
– For ECON; end of 3rd year (for irregular students 3rd year first semester)
– For PSYC, POLS, IR; end of 2nd year or 3rd year 

  • The students who are in their senior year yet not have completed their Summer Training are required to complete it for graduation, immediately after the last semester in which they completed the curriculum courses other than XXX 399. In the case that the student has one or two curriculum courses to be completed in addition to Summer Training, first the courses must be successfully completed in Summer School prior to their Summer Training, i.e., Summer Training cannot be made during Summer School under any circumstances. The Summer Training, in this case, can begin after the Summer School final exams are finished and it must end before the beginning of the next academic year.

 

  • To take place after the end of the final  examinations of the Spring term and before the beginning of classes of the Fall term – if student is taking Summer School courses, Summer Training should begin after the end of Summer School final exams. Summer Training cannot take place during term time.

 

Steps for taking XX399 Summer Training (Compulsory)

  1. Student downloads, fills out the SUMMER TRAINING APPLICATION FORM The form must be sent to STS (Summer Training System). See the table below for relevant deadlines for 2026.
  2. Student downloads a copy of the SUMMER TRAINING EVALUATION FORM, fills out relevant parts and hands it to his/her supervisor at placement institution. Supervisor fills out and signs the form and seals the envelope.  The sealed envelope can be handed to the student, sent to the address provided on the form or e-mailed as a soft copy from the official (not personal) address of the supervisor.   3. Student downloads and fills out SUMMER TRAINING REPORT. The form is downloadable below. See the table below for relevant deadlines.
  4. Student registers for XX399 Summer Training course of his/her Department in the Fall semester.
  5. If the student is planning to go on exchange in Spring 2026, s/he submits his/her REPORT before leaving (i.e. the same deadline as other students applies) and registers for XX399 Summer Training when s/he comes back. His/her report is evaluated during the semester of registration for XX399 Summer Training.

 

If you require a letter confirming that XX399 Summer Training is a required course in the students’ curriculum and that the SGK fee will be paid by the University, contact your Department Secretary, who will provide you with the necessary documentation.

Summer Training Deadlines

 

Deadline for submitting the SUMMER TRAINING APPLICATION FORM by students (APPLICATIONS WILL BE RECEIVED ONLY BY STS (Summer Training System) The applications will start on Monday. At least 7 days before the beginning of Summer Training
(Applications will be accepted between  May 23, 2026 and July 31, 2026, until 17:30)
Registration for XX399 by students   September 15, 2026
Deadline for submitting all SUMMER TRAINING FORMS(2, 3)

Voluntary Internship (Fall – Spring Semester)

 

Students to begin voluntary internship should meet the following conditions:

  •  The student should have a CGPA of at least 2.5 (For Fall, Spring Semester)
  •  The student should have completed their second year.
  •  Voluntary internship should span at least 20 workdays
  •  Employing institution should provide the student with an official letter stating   that the internship duties will not interfere with the student’s classes, exams and   homework
  • There is no requirement for the Evaluation Form or Internship Report upon completion of the internship
  • The student is expected to have submitted the application form or acceptance letter through the STS system.
  • The SGK fee will be paid by the University

 

Kindly note the following limitations, as well:

  • Student cannot take more than five courses during the semester of voluntary internship
  • Educational programs, briefings, workshops at institutions are not accepted as voluntary internship (with or without a paid tuition)
  • Online or hybrid internships are also acceptable.

Students to begin voluntary internship should meet the following conditions:

  •  The student should have a CGPA of at least 2.0 (For Summer Period)
  •  The student should have completed their second year.
  •  Voluntary internship should span at least 20 workdays
  •  Employing institution should provide the student with an official letter stating   that the internship duties will not interfere with the student’s classes, exams and   homework
  • The student is expected to have submitted the application form or acceptance letter through the STS system.
  • There is no requirement for the Evaluation Form or Internship Report upon completion of the internship
  • The SGK fee will be paid by the University

    • Where can I get my SGK document?

– SGK documentation will be available on e-devlet on the same day before the internship start date.

           To access SGK documentation:

* Log in to your e-devlet account

* Search for “Sosyal Güvenlik Kurumu/4A İşe Giriş Çıkış Bildirgesi”

* Click on “Belge Oluştur” and download the document

* Take it with you to the company on your first day

 

    • I would like to do Summer Training more than once.

– This is fine. However, you can take the course XX399 Summer Training only once. Your SGK will be paid by the University.

    • The institution I will be working for has provided me with an official letter of acceptance but has not signed the FEASS SUMMER TRAINING APPLICATION FORM.

– Attach the official letter (which should provide all the details the form asks for) to your FORM. Fill out the relevant parts of the FORM, sign it and then submit to STS. The letter and/or the form should be uploaded to Summer Training System

    • Are the Summer Training and Voluntary Internship ‘face-to-face / on-site’ activities?

– Yes. Bilkent University’s philosophy of Summer Training & Voluntary Internship has always been to equip the students with the culture of the traditional workplace’ along with its usual pedagogical goals. The emphasis on the face-to-face / on-site training is an embedded feature of Bilkent’s educational approach.

    • What happens if my application is not accepted?

– You can apply again provided that the deadline has not passed. See the webpage for the deadline.

    • If I change my mind after submitting my FORM, can I apply again?

– You can apply again provided that the deadline has not passed. See the table above for relevant deadlines.

    • I would like to stay in Bilkent dormitories during my Summer Training.

– Submit your application to Yurtlar Müdürlüğü.

    • What if my placement institution is late to submit the evaluation form?

– The student is expected to follow up with the placement institution regarding the submission of their SUMMER TRAINEE EVALUATION form. Those students whose forms are not received by the deadline will be informed by FEASS via e-mail.

    • When do I find out about XX399 grades?

– Final grades for XX399 Summer Training are announced at the same time as all final grades through STARS.
