DR. KATJA DÖRSCHNER-BOYACI WON SOFJA KOVALEVSKAJA AWARD 2014 FROM THE GERMAN HUMBOLDT FOUNDATION

As FEASS family, we would like to congratulate Assistant Professor Dr. Katja Dörschner-Boyaci (PSYC) who won the prestigious 2014 Sofja Kovalevskaja Award from the Humbdolt Foundation in Germany. The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award allows top junior researchers from around the world to spend five years building up a working group and working on a high-profile, innovative research project of their own choice at a research institution of their choice in Germany. As part of the award, Dr.Dörschner-Boyaci will be based in the Department of General Psychology in the University of Gießen working on a project titled: \'Protected against slips and slides\' looking at how the human visual system discerns the physical characteristics of surfaces and objects and protects us against unpleasant surprises such as biting into spoilt fruit or slipping and falling on a slick surface. The question of just what processes are involved in this form of visual perception has hardly been researched to date.
