FACULTY MEMBER RECEIVES SABANCI INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH AWARD

Dr. İoannis Grigoriadis (POLS) received the Sakıp Sabancı International Research Award. Dr. Grigoriadis' article explore in a comparative perspective the rising tide of majoritarianism in Greek and Turkish democratic transition. This study argues that, while majoritarianism is not intrinsically linked with a presidential or a parliamentary regime, it is likely to corrode checks and balances in either of the two. It may even contribute to a confrontational and inefficient democratic regime in cases of transition states where levels of social capital are low and institutional performance leaves much to be desired.
