BILKENT UNIVERSITY TRADEMASTER ECONOMICS PLATFORM OPENED

On November 4, the Trademaster Economics Platform opened at Bilkent University. The Trademaster Economics Platform is a financial trading platform that aims to create a platform that brings together the educational goals of Bilkent University through synergies between research, teaching through real-world applications and collaborations with the private and public sector. The platform that is administered by the Department of Economics in collaboration with Is Yatırım will be open to all Bilkent University students and faculty members. The trading platform located at the ground floor of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Social Sciences (FEASS) will allow Bilkent University students and faculty members to experience financial instrument trading in a trading room set-up, with computers connected to real-time data and allowing transactions to take place via the trademaster trading platform. The platform aims to give the students opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world financial markets and decisions, and learn-by-doing while still at Bilkent University. Another mission of the platform is to allow for collaborations between Is Yatırım and Bilkent University faculty members in research projects making use of the ample financial data available within the platform.

The opening ceremony took place in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Social Sciences at Bilkent. The ceremony started with Prof. Atalar’s welcoming remarks, in which he noted the importance of bringing together academic knowledge and practice in such platforms. Is Yatırım’s CEO Erdal Aral also emphasized the importance of this collaboration and shared his institution’s enthusiasm in creating a platform bringing together researchers, practitioners and students. The opening ceremony was concluded with a reception.

All Bilkent University students will be able to sign-up for mini-courses on financial trading and use the trading platform upon completion of these mini-workshops and courses. The course schedules, workshops and related seminars will be announced through the Department of Economics web-page.
